Emily was diagnosed with significant hearing loss in her left ear in January of 2009. We never knew there was a problem, until she failed the annual hearing screen at her school. We set up an appointment with her pediatrician, who in turn referred us to an ENT. Only after these doctor visits did we really start to notice the signs. She couldn’t hear anyone talking or whispering in that ear and she couldn’t talk on the phone using the left ear. The audiologist performed several tests but couldn’t really tell us what had caused the hearing loss. We were told that it had probably been that way since birth. It was recommended that she have a hearing aid to wear at school.
September 30th, 2009, I brought her to see Dr. Lou because she was complaining of headaches and dizziness. Dr. Lou took x-rays and determined that her atlas was pushed to the left and twisted forward. He adjusted her and Emily said she felt better. That was on a Tuesday. On Thursday, I picked her up from school and she said “Mommy, whisper in my ear!” I noticed that she wasn’t wearing her hearing aid. I whispered her name and she looked at me with her whole face lit up and she said, “I heard that!! You said my name!!” I was shocked! So I whispered again “I love you!” She looked at me and she said, “I love you, too!” I couldn’t believe it! She said when she didn’t wear her hearing aid to school, the teacher sounded very low but today she thought the teacher was talking really loud. She soon realized it wasn’t the teacher that was different, it was her! We were so excited that we called all of our family and friends and she talked to every one of them with the phone to her left ear. With just one adjustment she had gotten her hearing back. Her hearing has continued to improve since then. She says that the office should be renamed The Miracle Office and we couldn’t agree more. Emily said it perfectly, “Thanks times a million Dr. Lou!”
